Second Chances – Thor’s Story
What happens when a horse can no longer perform? What happens when a horse is no longer seen by humans as being useful anymore? For a lucky few, what happens is a second chance at a new way of being.
Come and meet Thor at Polo for Hope and have your picture taken with this gentle giant!
Thor, a stunning black Percheron, was trained for dressage until he came up lame. He found a home as a therapeutic horse, a gentle giant who carried disabled children on his broad back. And then his lameness recurred. His owner struggled to find a new home for him – a home for the big black horse with an even bigger heart.
In the past 2 years at Horse Spirit Connections, he has been rehabilitated and has stepped into the honoured role of teacher. Here, it doesn’t matter if humans can climb on his back or not. Thor takes them on a very different journey, one that helps them to heal and grow.
Thor is a very different horse now, and this second chance has given him a life where he is needed, loved and respected. Today he continues to touch the hearts of many who look to him for wisdom.
“Thor brought a new awareness to my body, mind and spirit. He was respectful and patient with me and truly seems to love his job. Thor has opened a door for me to realize my voice and follow my true path. Thank you Thor for another opportunity at living.” Lynda Watson
Thor joined a herd of 11 horses at Horse Spirit Connections. Each horse has a story to tell!
There are many rescue horses out there looking for a second chance at life – a chance to live a life that’s meaningful and make a difference in the lives of humans. Join us at Polo for Hope or donate now to help give other horses a second chance.
All of the net proceeds from Polo for Hope will go towards the upkeep and training of rescued horses at our healing horse centre. The horses will participate in our specially designed programs developed to help people of all ages make positive changes in their lives. Rehabilitated horses will stay at Horse Spirit Connections or new loving foster homes will be found for them where the horses are appreciated as sentient beings.
